Job Summary

Responsible for working closely with category management team and have the primary responsibility for the development and maintenance of product assortments. Will provide vendor dashboards to determine financial performance. Track category and program performance to review data that will provide attributes to make informed decisions regarding assortment selections. Contributes in the evaluation, design development, and implementation of standardized assortments, reporting, business processes, and information systems solutions.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Leads execution of detailed assortment plans, business reviews, and product line reviews. Works with merchants to determine needs by category.

  • Provides analysis on a standard set of analytics that provide actionable insights on assortment opportunities and the go-forward strategy for a category.

  • Plans and leads all phases of a project’s life cycle (i.e. feasibility, design implementation, evaluation); this includes extracting the business need; defining the business requirements, understanding the impact on the business, and designing and carrying out the project(s).

  • Serves as liaison between category and finance by facilitating meetings.

  • Mentors other analysts in developing/honing business knowledge and analytical skills.

  • Services as a subject matter expert and performs research and/or analysis within assigned projects.

  • Works on 2 to 4 projects simultaneously, recommending process improvements and making final project recommendations which impact the business.

  • Establishes and reports on metrics of assigned projects to gauge business value.

Nature and Scope

  • Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems. Makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.

  • Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to the expected results. Determines and develops an approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.

  • May oversee the completion of projects and assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc. Contributes to employees' professional development but does not have hiring or firing authority.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 5-8 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.

  • Bachelor's degree - Required

  • 3-5 years of relative experience - Required

  • Strong analytical skills using Excel - Required

  • Experience in analysis of large data sets - Required

  • Strong project management skills and process orientation

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Experience as an Inventory Analyst, Assortment Analyst, Procurement Analyst - Preferred
