Job Description / Qualifications

Job Summary

Responsible for supporting the transportation department by using established guidelines and systems to achieve goals as established by department management.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Reviews purchase orders that are “ready-to-ship” using our OTM (Oracle Transportation Management) system.

Assigns freight carriers based on shipment details of size, weight, destination, requested delivery date and cost.

Communicates with Buyers and Sales Associates to update and correct purchase order data.

Maintains communication with vendors and freight carriers regarding shipments of purchase orders.

Monitors and report deficiencies from freight carriers as needed.

Researches freight consolidation opportunities to increase savings using OTM.

Supports the field for tracking information as needed.

Performs additional functions as needed to support the freight team.

Nature and Scope

  • Refers complex, unusual problems to supervisor.

  • Under general supervision, exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques. Work typically involves regular review of output by a senior coworker or supervisor.

  • None.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

HS Diploma or GED strongly preferred. Specialized skills training/certification may be required. Generally 2-5 years of experience in area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in logistics – Required.

  • Rating and routing truckloads and LTL freight – Required.

  • Oracle TMS is preferred, any system is OK.
