White Cap Systems Engineer - IT Services in Florida

Job Summary

Responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting technical infrastructure, hardware, and system software components for small- to mid-sized projects.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Performs installation, configuration, maintenance, debugging and support for systems software/hardware, including implementation support for multiple infrastructure platforms on mid-sized and smaller projects.

  • Tunes platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved. Performs root cause analyses for service interruption recoveries. Creates preventative measures and presents to management.

  • Identifies and tests processes for automation. Performs configuration prior to the quality assurance process.

  • Develops expert knowledge of industry best practices and uses that knowledge to provide technical support to project team members.

  • Provides 24/7 on-call support for assigned systems, including investigating and troubleshooting problems.

  • Discusses issues with users and translates issues to determine appropriate technical solutions.

Nature and Scope

  • Demonstrates skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information and inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data.

  • Nature of work requires increasing independence; receives guidance only on unusual, complex problems or issues. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor and/or direct customers of the process.

  • May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support or professional personnel.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location and/or there may be a need to stoop regularly or move/lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 2-5 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.

Preferred Qualifications

Purpose of the Role:

  • Perform systems administration tasks for various IT applications

  • Design and build automation to support systems administration

Role requirements:

  • Perform user management and other configuration in various IT applications

  • Interest in a balanced technical role with a well-rounded skill set (technical development and process improvement)

  • Technical background (Information Systems degree or similar)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task to meet deadlines

  • Ability to quickly learn new skills in a fast-paced dynamic environment

  • Good time management and the ability to work autonomously using initiative

  • High aptitude for creative problem solving and willingness to challenge & improve best practices

Bonus requirements:

  • Client facing or consultant experience, technical or otherwise

  • Systems Administration experience in Jira, ServiceNow, Smartsheet or similar

  • RPA experience, preferably UiPath, process implementations

  • API development

  • C#/VB.net experience
